We are pleased to announce the launch of the brand new design of the joomla.org homepage! And it’s not only about a new design, the content has been refreshed to make it easy to discover the Joomla! World and more easily find the information you may need.
A big thank you to the Redesign Team
This new homepage required a long process to identify the needs and the message Joomla! wanted to spread.
In August 2015, just as we completed upgrading the site to Joomla! 3.4, the Joomla.org homepage redesign team, lead by Søren Beck Jensen, was formed to begin rethinking this high visibility page. After over a year of research, collecting user feedback, and testing, the team finalised a new design and structure for the page.
The Joomla! Project would like to warmly thank all the volunteers involved in this team for their fantastic job.
Making it a reality
The redesign team’s vision started laying the framework for an upgraded site template for all of our Joomla! web properties; however we are not yet at a point where we can roll out this template. So the redesign team’s work was backported into our existing template so we could immediately make use of the team’s hard work and fresh ideas.
A big thank you to Sandra Thevenet, Michael Babker and Rowan Hoskyns Abrahall for completing this effort…

Since the release of EasyBlog 5, it was one of the most revolutionary and challenging extension we have ever developed. Not only it is sophisticated, but it was our dream to help authors simplify their day to day authoring workflow on their blogs. That in itself wasn’t an easy task but that’s not going to stop us from getting there.
We spent a lot of our time understanding problems, difficulties and user experience by mostly observing our support forum. EasyBlog 5.1 is our next innovation and today, I’m thrilled to be sharing with you some of the features, improvements and introducing the brand new composer in EasyBlog 5.1.
Brand New Composing Experience
When EasyBlog 5 was released, it has one of the coolest ever looking editor but user experience was compromised and this wasn’t aligned to our initial goals. I started observing some of the videos sent in by our customers on the support board and one very common step most of them took was to open the composer in a new window.
What we realized was the need of screen estate in EasyBlog’s composer and because most Joomla templates does contain extensions in a very confined width, there is no way around this apart from gaining full control of the site and to do that, our composer has to open in full screen…

Contributor Day is a big part of WordCamp London. This year it was held on Friday 17th March at London Metropolitan University. 100 contributors descended on the venue each aiming to make WordPress better in some wonderful way.
Attendees were asked to choose an area of interest. The options were Accessibility, BuddyPress, Community, Core, Design & Flow, Documentation, Polyglots, Support and Themes. 5 of the 100 contributors chose BuddyPress. 2 of the 5 were new to contributing in general but all had used, or had at least heard of, BuddyPress at some point.
After a quick refill of coffee the team convened and began discussing how to get the most from the next 8 hours. Due to a diverse range of skills available within the group, we were able to focus on documentation, coding and localisation.
As a team we managed to identify an issue related to colour contrast in the Twenty Seventeen theme. #7471 was opened and a patch was submitted. We were also able to translate all remaining strings into Italian…
